Typing Speed Test
The classic test: 1, 3 or 5 minutes, live WPM and accuracy, per-character feedback as you type.
How scoring works
Words per minute counts every 5 correct characters as one “word” — the standard method used by typing software and employers. Accuracy is the share of characters you typed correctly. A fast score with low accuracy is not a good score: most employers and tests care about net speed, so aim for 95% accuracy or better before chasing raw speed.
Getting a fair score
Sit with both feet flat, screen at eye level, and type the passage exactly as shown — including capitals and punctuation. Backspace works if you want to fix a mistake, but the fastest typists simply keep going and let accuracy come from rhythm, not corrections.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good typing speed?
About 40 WPM is average for adults, 60+ WPM is good, and 75–90 WPM is professional level. Data-entry and transcription jobs often ask for 60–80 WPM with high accuracy.
Which test length is best?
The 1-minute test is a quick check. The 3 and 5-minute tests are more accurate because they average out lucky and unlucky moments — employers usually use longer tests.
Is my typing sent anywhere?
No. The test runs completely in your browser.
